Sure, people scoff at its performance now. “0-60 in 10 seconds! What is this, 1985?” Well, we’ll see how fast their V8-powered land tanks go when they have NO GAS. In case you haven’t heard, planet Earth is scheduled to squeeze out the last drops of its most valuable liquid in the year 2038 – an estimate confirmed by Futurama. When the tap’s all gone, you can sit guilt-free in your evergreen machine, laughing at drivers of Hummers and Escalades and their self-induced apocalypse.

It’s true that in its current state, even the Prius needs gas to attain any reasonable speed. But technologically speaking, it’s still a newborn. Hey, who knows… by 2038, its propulsion system might be advanced enough to run on altruism.

and with the hydrogen internal combustion engine in some of the concept cars gasoline may be a thing of the past. we always seem to find a new fuel source whenever we deplete whatever it was we were depending on (coal to natural gas... gasoline to ???)

I wouldn't call hydrogen a thing of the past, I'd say it's on the back burner. Oil will run out and that fancy hybrid will stop running despite it's great fuel economy because you need fuel to have the economy. Think of hybrids as a a stepping stone to hydrogen.
