Hello,

I'm looking at buying a new car, a car that has particularly caught my eye has been deemed a Category C. Should I steer clear or should I go for it? It's in my price range obviously which is £3K max (will pay more for right car)

I'll provide as much information on the car as possible... Just looking to get some thoughts an opinions.

Seat Leon 2.0 TFSI FR
Car is 10 years old (57 plate)
50,000 miles
Full service history
Price: £2,500
Sold with 3 months RAC Warranty and 12 months breakdown cover

Car was classed as a Cat C in 2010/11 and has been back on the road for the last 4-5 years

MOT Passed in Sept 2010 to 2011 then there is a gap (due to write off I'm assuming)

Next MOTS are in 2013 May Failed twice - reasons for failure:
Electronic stability system warning lamp indicates a fault (3.4.1c)
Offside Front Headlamp insecure (1.7.3)
Nearside Windscreen wiper blade missing (8.2.2)
Nearside Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)
Offside Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)
Drivers airbag missing (5.4.1)
Passengers airbag obviously defective (5.4.1)
Supplementary Restraint System warning lamp indicates a fault (5.4.2)
Offside Front Seat belt damaged sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt (5.2.2a)
Offside Front Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b)
Nearside Side repeater not working (1.4.A.2c)
Nearside Front front brake binding (3.7.B.1)
Nearside Front Headlamp aim too high (1.8)
Offside Front Wheel nut(s) missing (4.2.A.1e)

Since it's 3rd MOT on the 21st May the car has passed all MOT's without any issues with only minor advisories popping up.

Next MOT is due this year June 2017 and the car dealer is happy to put the car through the MOT before I pick the car up and purchase.

I haven't yet purchased the vehicle check certificate to find out exactly what the history is but I will do if I buy the car.

I don't think I have missed anything, I know that's a lot of information to digest but any help/advice is much appreciated.

Thanks Smile

there is a Problem. i have never seen one of these.

you should really have it inspected Locally by a professional mechanic who is familiar with them..

I don't want to answer your question quite literally by the SEAT of my pants.

is this the car you are looking at..

PS...

Drivers airbag missing (5.4.1)
Passengers airbag obviously defective (5.4.1)
Supplementary Restraint System warning lamp indicates a fault (5.4.2)
Offside Front Seat belt damaged sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt (5.2.2a)

these are enough to really PASS on most cars..

Thanks for the reply!

I would love to get it checked but the car is 150+ miles away from my home :/

Not the easiest thing to get done.

And yes.... Near enough the exact same car!

there are details that only can been seen in person. and some only spotted by professional mechanics who are familiar with the car.

there was an oil filter commercial in the late 1960s and early 1970s..

you can pay me now or you can pay me later..

i know a racer who saw a motor he wanted for his car. drove from los angeles to houston texas to go buy it.  he looked it over for 3 minutes.. turned and started to walk back to the truck.. the engine owner said where are you going..  he said.. that motor is NOT what you said it was.. i'm not buying it.

that car sounds like it was stolen..  perhaps abused by Football hooligans after a loss..
