you can probably get by with oil changes every six months..  changing the oil does several things.. it gets the dirt out of the oil .. stuff in oil can be carbon.. slight amounts of metal coming.. it also gets the acids that build up from moisture.  please if you only drive you car a few miles..  try to take the long way home once in a while. so you put 5 to 10 miles on it to bring the engine oil and transmission fluid up to normal operating temps.  this will cause any moisture that collects to evaporate out.

getting on the freeway once in a while also.  doing 10 miles at normal freeway speeds can help also..

you do have the option of changing to mobil1 oil and filters.. you can go much longer with that product.  i have personal experience of engines lasting really long time with that in the engine.. doing filters every 3 to 5 thousand miles just topping off the oil.  my cousin showed me this trick. he 72 plymouth valant had 244k miles on it when the mechanic crashed it.  my personal ford van was done that way.. it has 530K on the original short block.. other issues like head gaskets and water pumps did fail.. but the engine is still nice and clean inside.

That is right, an oil of the vehicle should be changed after every three months to maintain the vehicle.

with limited driving..   and today's motor oils. it could be a waste.. depending on driving habits.

i do know people that need to change their oil every 3 weeks..   as they drive 70 miles each way to work 6 days a week.

the hardest thing he needed to learn.. is that he needed to check his engine oil level every week.. instead of letting it go the 3 weeks to to a month. he has called me several times over the past 2 decades.. oh. i am on the freeway and the  engine oil light is on.  what should i do.

when did you check the oil.. oh i got it changed last month..  that was 5,000 miles ago.  cost him 6,500 bucks for a rebuilt engine.

the worst part. and perhaps the best part.. about a year after the engine was installed the transmission stopped shifting.. i happened to be in the shop late that night..  i diagnosed it as bad transmission speed sensors.  about 40 bucks worth of parts.  i usually keep them in stock.. but had slacked off since every parts store has them but this was after 9 pm on a friday..   i said.. i will be passing by his area on sunday and i could screw them in. takes 45 minutes.   what did he do..  he had taken his car to the local dealer.. they said the speed sensors were ok. that the transmission was bad at a cost of 4,500 bucks.  so he donated his car to some charity.  i could clear the codes and make it shift once..
