Good tips! I may add, if you got a spare tires of the same size, it is advisable to include it on the rotation. It will even out the worn among them.

Also observing the worn pattern and possible road noise will help any issues may occur and could give future damage.

Before putting SPARE TIRES INTO USE. there is a DOT number on one side.. it is a specific serial number assigned to each tire..  check the DOT numbers against the DOT dot numbers web site..

you may need to NOT put it in if the production date is over 5 years old. or if it was recalled..

there were places that put spare tires from ford explorers back on the car..  the spare tires failed as they had been recalled and were over 10 some where 15 years old and the drivers and occupants were killed or injured when the spare tire failed and the explorer rolled over.

I think most drivers should keep this in mind. Although it may be seldom someone would use a spare tire, just a food for thought, this kind of information can come in handy in preventing such accident like the story you shared.

Those guys are based in Florida and FL is one of those areas of the country where I would recommend NOT buying used tires - unless the car is going to be sold or stored.
