1991 chevy lumina
3.12 multiport fuedl injection

Problem is this car will start up but wont rev, in order to keep running have to disconnect the alternator, but then won,t develope no speed.  When car is cold shuts right back down. We have 35psi on the fuel pressure.  This car had a transmission installed last year and a month after hasn't ran since.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I'm not working on car father is for an older lady he is at his wits end.
                                               Thanks

It sounds like you have ample fuel pressure. The fact that you have to disconnect the alternator would put your problem more towards ignition. I guess if your alternator has stopped working or shorted out it may seem to help to disconnect it. However, your system is not going to supply enough power to create an adequate spark. I would take a hard look at everything related to the charging system. Clean up all the connections (Ground to block, battery posts, ground to engine, connections on starter, etc). Last, have your wife put her finger on the coil and crank it. Take note on how much she jumps to guage spark level. What made you diconnect the alternator in the first place?
