Wondering if it's possible to remove the "shift and select lever shaft assembly" while tranny is still in the car? Is there something else required for removal that is only accessible after opening the case?

Thanks for the help

If you're trying to remove the shifter assembly from the rest of the trans.  there are, I'm guessing, maybe four bolts on the cover.  If you are that far and it won't lift out the next step is to find the bolt that comes in from the side of where the shifter assembly goes into the case.  The bolt has a tip on the other end that goes into a slot in the shift mechanism.  This bolt screws into the case not the chift cover then the bolt tip lines up in a slot to anchor the shift mechanism.  Put trans in neutral before removing shift mechanism out of case.
