What do people think about it? My future brother-in-law currently owns a Tacoma and is thinking of trading up in a couple of years. When I told him about the new Tundra, he flipped.
Opinions?

I would buy the diesel that is coming out. Mine is a 2000 and it runs great. Make a list of thing that he would like the truck for and then match it up. I use mine for hauling and traveling. The thing rides like a smooth high end care. Test drive them all. Toyota will let you drive it for a week. Good luck in his choice.

The new Tundra is considerably larger than the current model. Will that affect your decision?

I wouldn't buy one becuse I am done with Toyota. I have had nothing but problems with them. They are an arrogant car company and I am sick of going back and forth with them about the problem with my minvan. They refuse to admit that they have a problem even though hundreds of people have complained about the same thing. I have had two other toyotas that have had head gasket problems and break problems. Everyone bases their choices on their own experiences and based on my experience, toyotas are not the great vehicle everyone claims they are. Another example of their arrogance is the intrest rates they charge. I had an 818 credit score when i bought my van and the best they could do was 6.9% for 36 months with a $30,000 down payment. I paid cash. What I should have done was walk out of there and buy the GMC crew cab pick up that I wanted. They get the same gas mileage, (16.5 hwy) and far more power.

mike302,
I'm in somewhat agreement with you. I remember my family's old Toyota all too well. But worse, for me, is the pushiness of the dealerships. I've tried to buy from Toyota twice in my life and both times the experience left a sour experience. Also, their vehicles are too expensive. Next time I'll just get a cheap Lexus. Or a Mazda or Accord.

I have to agree with the arrogance in their service dept. Though I got my way when I get the GM involved (only one major issue [wiring] with my son's tacoma). However, over the past 30 years my wife and I have purchased many Toyotas and they run great. I have had far more reliability issues with GM & Lincoln (will never by Lincoln again). I guess they all can have there issue's.

I would certainly get one.I own an 05 and it's great. I live in Barbados and fuel cost is an issue for most people here. Although we have quite a few american trucks here, most people would not own one because of their high fuel consumption ( gas is very expensive here) but the Tundra is very good on gas for it's size. The ride is as good as any luxury car I have driven and I have driven quite a few. So even though it will cost me about $180,000 ($90 us) to own one, I can't wait to get one.

I have to be honest here. I am a Toyota fan. Have been for a while when I bought my first Corolla years ago. Have had different vehicles over the years too. Although a Toyota breaks down, it is not so perfect it is exempt. It is a fact of life of owning a vehicle. I started wondering why Toyota the best record, a perfect company -- standing for reliability. The truth Toyota has never claimed this. It is what people say and what the vehicles show in their running. Really, when one buys Toyota or Honda, one is actually buying insurance / luck that your vehicle will have less problems than GM or Ford. Thats all it is, think of it as how many problems per 100 vehicles. Toyota just has less. Check out consumer reports which explains further.
