i bought some cheap Prodigy tires from Discount Tires for $59 a piece and i'm getting 35,000 miles on them and they need replacing. I figured i got 593 miles per dollar.  But, my on other car i paid $143 and got approx 50000 miles or 349 miles per dollar.  Why do the big tire companies want you to buy on warranty, i know one is that you have to come back to them but i'm thinking it is much more profitable for them.

Am i going wrong here somewhere in my math or thinking to just keep buying the cheap tires or buy tires that give me the most miles per dollar spent?

How much would it cost you if one of the tires had failed?  Would that change the picture?
