Help a noob fix his radio!

Alright so I'm 18 and new to fixing cars but I want to learn. I don't know all the proper names for everything so when helping me just assume I'm retarded. I drive a 1993 Chrysler concord. The radio used to work except the fuse (lighter, amp, and horn) would blow every now and then or if I honk the horn it blows. (short somewhere?) well now the radio comes on but no sound comes out and it's not the fuse because I keep putting new ones in. I'm pretty sure it's a short somewhere? If you could help me out at all it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

first..  we need to examine the wiring diagrams...  see what's in the circuit...

i don't have a wiring diagram for that model handy at this point in time..  i will have to look around.. i did not see it at the az repair info site..

does your car have an AIR BAG in the steering wheel?  if so STOP here.  

now. working on cars requires some investment in tools..  

you will need a digital volt meter..  15 to 25 bucks usually.

you will need a circuit tester..   test light..   4 to 15 bucks.

on computerized cars.. its always good to have a logic probe..  15 to 40 bucks..  

most things on your car are metric..

look carefully when buying sockets and wrench sets..  the sizes in bold are the sizes i recall using on mid 90s mopar cars..  

as your car needs..  in metric.. most size between 6 and 19MM to start..   6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19

i am not telling you that you have to go out and buy a WHOLE bunch of tools.. the idea is to carefully select some tools that will last for a LONG time..   buy six point sockets.. to start with...

I'm pretty sure I have most or all of those tools in my parents garage, and yes there is a air bag in the steering wheel. The only radio circuit I could find online is to tiny to even read and when I blow it up it's too blurry.

if blowing the horn causes the fuse to blow.. or turning the steering wheel causes the fuse to blow..

you might have a bad Clock spring device in the steering column..   what the HECK is a clockspring device..

its a coil of ribbon cable looped carefully in a double sided plastic housing.. between the steering column and the steering wheel.. to allow the electrical signals to pass through. while you are turning the wheel...

once in a while.. the clock spring devices wear out..

there are a bunch of different designs..



i don't know right this second what yours looks like

i would also check that the lighters are NOT shorting out.. as they can do that also..

I have no idea how to embed pictures but I found these 2 pictures that are the same as my car. I looked and found I have a 6 and 12 point socket set, and a circuit tester, i did not find a voltmeter but i'm sure my grandpa or someone I know has one.

Alright so I've removed the radio, and taken off the dash board and I have no idea how to use the curcuit tester on the wires...
