Hey Guys,
So my Volvo 960 Station Wagon finally died out on me, 143,000 miles. So now I'm in the market for another wagon, but I am kind of lost at what to look at. I want a relatively cheap (at most, $20,000 new) station wagon that will last a long time. I am a volvo diehard, but the new ones just don't last as long as the oldies.

Right now the only car I'm looking at is the Subaru Legacy Wagon. Its the perfect price, and I've been told it actually last a long time.

Do you guys have any suggestions?  If you had to buy a station wagon that would last, what would you go for?  Which car companies out there make the most reliable?

Thanks for your time!

I like the new Ford Freestyle. But if I were cutting costs, looking for gas mileage, and willing to downsize, I'd check out the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix (same cars with different faces). With proper maintenance, ALL of these vehicles should last 150K+ miles.

gir,

I rented the Mazda6 sports wagon and liked it. Felt like I was driving a sedan. As for reliability, Consumer Reports gave the wagon a Recommended.

However, check the cargo space. I think it's comparable to the Legacy wagon.

Good luck!
