Are you getting three shifts? Is there a check engine light on?

You say it shifts fine so you feel it shift? If you happened to pop the fuse during r&r it will start off in third ( both solenoids de-energized ) then you would have only third, no shifts, and reverse. What was the original problem, parts that were replaced, codes stored then & now? Was the torque conv. replaced with correct stall speed? Are you hearing the eng. Rev excessively due to bad eng. Fan clutch?

the reason we are asking.. ..
when the transmission section of the ECM sees a problem..
it shuts off the ability to shift and lets you start out only in second gear.. this gets you home... that that is the where the transmission will stay when you put it in drive as there is NO power to the shift solenoids..
