if you are talking about coolant running out of the engine....

could be a coolant leak....

a bad radiator hose..

a bad heater hose..

a bad water pump...

a bad radiator..

a bad heater core.

corrosion in the water tubes that connect different hoses on the engine..

leaking freeze plugs in the block or head.

bad coolant recovery tank..

mechanics use a radiator pressure tester and the proper adaptor to what is likely a small diameter radiator cap opening on your radiator to pressurize the cooling system to easily identify the coolant leaks and to verify the system holds pressure..

one fellow online misunderstood the test...  and posted that he had tested his car for 5 days and it was still holding pressure.
if the cooling system is filled and there are no air pockets..  you will know if there are leaks in a minute or two..

if the coolant is leaking behind or next to the timing belt cover..   its probably a bad water pump...  be sure to change the timing belt also.. check the tensioner and idler rollers for noisy bearings.. and please... PRESET the engine to the cam belt timing marks prior to removing the timing belt..    if you have a 4 cylinder  please use a small mirror to verify the cam sprocket timing mark is really lined up .. its hard to get a good look at it.. and mistakes have been made many times..
