Hello, i'm glad that i find you.
I have a problem with a JF506E transmission. The obd code is P0220 - P0734 - the light TC/Downhill MIL is on. The transmission had not 4th gear when is cold .... After the rebuild, which could not find anything damaged, again has no fourth gear when is cold. When screwed the 11 bolts from the valve body with 10Nm. torque, it works when the oil reaches 55 Celsius, when the torque is 8Nm. ,was working when it reaches 38 Celsius, and if screwed with 12Nm. torque, then there is no 4th and 5th gear at all....
Any help i appreciate it thanks.

PO220 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Malfunction. This is a problem with the sensor on the gas pedal or the circuit.
PO734 - incorrect 4th gear ratio. This code sets when the input shaft rpm doesn't correlate properly with the output shaft speed when the computer is commanding 4th gear.
When the trans is going into 4th and 5th does it feel like its slipping? Is the 3-4 shift firm or sloppy? If 4th and 5th are solid when they work then you probably have some sticking valves in the valve body.

i wonder... when the torque wrench was last checked for calibration..
an eyeball calibration does not cut it... as in .. Looks Ok to me..
i worked in an engine rebuilding shop in the early 90s.. there were a lot of comebacks for head gasket failures.. when i brought my brand new craftsman click type torque wrench to torque some left handed fasteners on some bizarre motor.. i grabbed the assembly room torque wrenches and a 15MM 12 point socket and tested them... checked at 65 foot pounds.. out of the six.. none were close.. one at 65 foot pounds. actually clicked at 45.. so when the knob was set to 65.. it was only applying 45 foot pounds...
they were too old to be recalibrated... so i got the boss to let me buy a wall mounted torque wrench tester with a dial display.. an hour after the boss told everybody to use it.. the crew had removed it and tossed it at me.. said its wrong.. that each torque wrench read differently.. and they have had these torque wrenches for years... they know they are accurate... i quit a few days later..

Thanks for the reply, first, my 3 torque wrenches they are very accurate and yes, the P0220 is the TPS , but is real? came up only when the 4th gear fails... and the same time with the (yellow)malfunction light TC/Downhill... The P0734 > Okay, but the 4th gear friction disks was like new
{"probably have some sticking valves in the valve body"} > which valve? that i can't find...

how about an Exact year make and model.. rather than just a generic freelander... and hoping i hate to post the wrong info...
Generic OBD Error Code Details for P0220
Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "B" Circuit
What does this mean?
OBD Code P0220refers to Electric Throttle Control Actuator consists of throttle control motor, throttle position (TP)sensor, etc. The throttle position sensor responds to the throttle valve movement. The throttle position sensor has the two sensors. These sensors are a kind of potentiometers which transform the throttle valve position into output voltage, and emit the voltage signal to the ECM. In addition, these sensors detect the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feed the voltage signals to the ECM. The ECM judges the current opening angle of the throttle valve from these signals and the ECM controls the throttle control motor to make the throttle valve opening angle properly in response to driving condition. Symptoms
Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0220 - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - No throttle response Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0220 - Harness or connector (The TP sensor circuit is open or shorted.) - Electric Throttle Control Actuator (or Throttle Body Motor) - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APP) The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: An unexpected voltage from the TP sensor is sent to ECM.
when i last worked on the SER 2A 109 or the series 3 88 santana that i had.. i did not see any OBD2 ports..

Those valve bodies are notorious for warping. The first thing i would do is drive the car with a good scanner hooked up in data mode. I'm not talking about a $200 or even $500 scanner i'm talking $3000 scanner. Watch all sensor data and computer commands while you are experiencing the problem.

please don't shoot.......... @ -LandRover Freelander 2.5L 2005- from '98- the 2.5L & 3.2L have the same transmission. -the tps seems to work well in scanner- i know what means the P0220. I only ask if this code may be fake.
@ I have two scanners DIAGUN & KTS570 ! (I hope that they match the price) both scanners in the data, show all working well... tps responds & solenoids too . yes, I notice that those valve bodies are notorious for warping , and all with this common problem, and because is my first of this transmission i asked for any tips.
thanks.

we are not aiming at you .. its only easier to know exactly what we are working on...
why don't you take a look at what sonnax has to offer for it..
http://www.sonnax.com/product-lines/transmission/parts/filter
select Jatco. wait for the models to load.. then select your JF unit..

I didn't suggest a $3000 scanner to be a snob.Only the very good scanners offer all the data thats necessary for a proper diagnosis. I notice you mentioned solinoids and the tps. What about the range sensor, intermediate speed sensor, turbine sensor and vehicle speed sensor. These all need to be monitored while the problem is occurring and then when its not . Was the computer commanding 4th but the trans staying in 3rd?

Those valve bodies do have their share of issues. Just replaced one on VW O9A basically JF506E. Some units it's better to find a reman vb than to invest in all of the costly Sonnax reamers. See a lot of those units burn up third- small hard to see crack in alum. High/ rev. Piston.
