could it be a VACUUM leak???
when the plenum seals get damaged... the can whistle...
there are several things you can ***
pick up an automotive stethoscope.. harbor freight tools sells them.. autozone.. oreillys... most parts stores have them.. around 10 bucks.. you can use them to listen to different parts of the engine... hear the individual sounds every part makes...

you did not mention which exact motor... alldatadiy com has on their front page... access to the TSB titles.. its free... really... read through them.. see if anything comes across as your problem..
don't worry that there might be a lot of TSBs... they are possible problems that have happened to other similar models.. ...
