I was told the problem was the crankshaft position sensor so I replaced that. I installed all new spark plugs because the old ones were in pretty bad shape. The battery is fully charged but when I try to crank it, it just turns over like it's going to but never starts. Can someone please help me as this is my only vehicle. Thank you in advance!!!
should be an inline six in that.. not a V6.,.. do you have any tools..do you have a test light??? circuit tester??do you have a timing light... first... is listen for the fuel pump... when you have somebody turn the key from OFF to ON.. you should hear the fuel pump in the tank at the back of the jeep.. it should only run for 2 seconds without cranking the engine.. do you have a friend to crank the engine while you are looking under the hood???? pull the coil wire from the center of the distributer cap... position it 1/2 an inch from the engine block... DON"T hang on to it... have somebody crank the engine for a few seconds.. do you get a nice bright blue spark??next put the coil wire back... pull a spark plug wire.. stick a screw driver up the boot where you removed it from the spark plug... position the screw driver shank 1/2 inch from the engine block... again.. have somebody crank the engine.. again do you get spark... not as often as the coil wire.. replace the spark plug wire...next.. does your jeep have a tachometer????does it move when you crank the engine????can you disconnect one of the fuel injectors???can you look at the other six injector connectors.. find which color wire is the same on each of the connectors...probe the connector or the wire ONLY on that side.. does the power come on with the key????if not.. you might have a bad... Auto shut down relay ... the auto shut down relay is on the inner fender... i will have to look for a component locator to identify the location .. it varies from jeep to jeep model..things that go bad... auto shut down relay..cam shaft position sensor.. its the only thing in the distributer.. you really need to replace the distributer when they go bad..do check for play in the distributer shaft.. if the rotor moves sideways... it can tear up the shutter wheel for the hall effect cam sensor.. the fuel pump can go bad...once in a great while the engine control computer..
