I have a 2007 Impala, and I'm not getting any heat at idle but plenty when I'm driving. The temp gauge is in the middle where it always has been, coolant was a little low but I filled it and no change. When driving the heat gets really hot, hotter than you'd think it should be. The minute you stop at a light it starts coolng off. I was thinking that maybe the thermostat might be stuck open. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

that does sound like a stuck open thermostat...
hmm... on a cold start... does the upper radiator hose stay cold until it gets hot all at once.. showing the thermostat is closed and then opens...
or does the upper hose build up heat as it goes...
mechanics use an infrared non contact thermometer... these are 20 to 40 bucks depending on where you buy them.. pointing at various parts as the engine warms up.. lets you know how the hot coolant is circulating..

i would think that you might want to investigate where the coolant is going... radiator pressure testers are available at some parts stores in their loan a tool section.. be sure to know what shape your radiator cap is.. so you can get the right adaptor ..
