Hi, I'm new to these forums and signed up seeking help.
Anyway, I'm 18 years old in college and thinking of buying my first car (I drove my grandpa's old buick to school and back last year, but it wasn't my car), which is a 2001 VW Golf, but the ad says it'll need "exhaust from cat-back".
I don't know much about cars except for your basic maintenance like oil changing and stuff, so this is all new to me.
So my main question is what does this even mean? Will I need a new exhaust system? and will it be insanely expensive??
Also, the car costs 2400 dollars and has 140k miles on it and is a manual, is that priced decently? Sorry if this isn't the right forum for that particular question, but I don't want to make too many topics
Thanks!

something is wrong with this deal...
i wonder if it's a former street racer... that will take THOUSANDS of dollars to restore it to where it will pass smog..
i had a friend with a similar model.. he bored and stroked it.. put a supercharger on it.. lowered it to the ground.. installed a roll cage... nitrous.. fuel cell.. all kinds of mods to the fuel rail and system.. then wondered why it would not pass smog..
then his boss saw the car and flipped out.. it was a company car... ON LEASE.
the price is funny also...
make sure that they don't ask for you to send them money and then the car will be delivered later.. thats a scam.. money gone if not thrilled...
price the parts you need at BMAparts.com
there are several different motors in those.. each identified by a different three letter code...
GOLF L4_1.8L_Turbo_AWD L4_2.0L_AEG L4_1.8L_Turbo_AWW L4_2.0L_AVH L4_1.9L_DIESEL_Turbo_ALH L4_2.0L_AZG
GOLF GTI L4_1.8L_Turbo_AWD L4_1.8L_Turbo_AWW V6_2.8L_AFP
please... since you are inexperienced in this.. take a professional mechanic with you to see the car..
read the Cl warnings on scams..

it has a craigslist dealer ad, and they have an actual website too, here's a link: http://www.showmeusedcars.net/vehicledetails.aspx?VID=143289733 (sorry if they're not allowed)

well the battery is probably slightly over 100 bucks.. but it might be more...

the exhaust system might be 4 or 500 bucks if you have to buy it new..
