Hi Everyone,

I have a 06 Nissan X-Trail Aventurer & my passenger side xenon headlight went out, managed to source some for less than the quoted Nissan Dealer (£140 for one) price but when we replaced it, it still doesn't work, someone suggested it could be the relay but I'm at a loss as to how to find the problem!! Am I going to have to give in & take it to a garage or is there a way that I can solve this problem myself? (well with a little bit of help   )

Many Thanks

Thank you very much for the help, will give it a go. Also I wondered if it would be any indication of one fault or another if neither full beam on the passenger side (same side as the original fault) or the blue full beam light on the dash is no longer working.

Any Thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I don't have a wiring diagram easily available..

just curious.. its late.. is this a north american model???  i am taking its a UK model... i don't know off the top of my head what the US model version would be......

almost all japanese designed cars have fuses for right or left head lights..

do you still have your owners manual???  look for the fuse layouts.. turn the headlights on and probe both sides of each fuse in the fuse box..

i have not studied the HID power supply wiring .. so i don't know if there is a separate high and low beam fuse for both left and right..

Certainly check the fuses as he's recommended.

But the most common failure with Xenon headlights (other than the bulb) is the ballast.  On some models it will wear out at the same time as the bulbs.  Because you have stock Nissan lights, the ballast may be hidden in the engine compartment.  To check it, swap the working & non-working ballasts, see if the problem is now on the other side.

But check all the fuses.  Just looking at them isn't enough, use a mulitmeter set to continuity.  Continuity setting is normally the one with a large arrow.
And you just put one probe on each side of the fuse, if it beeps then the fuse is OK.  Check all of them.

Mulitimeters are cheap and useful, worth buying if you don't have one.  I have a recommended one on my website, but most any meter you find is good enough for what you're doing.

It might be the fuse. make sure both ballast and bulbs work before you install the hid conversion kit. How to test? connect the hid kit directly to the battery. take the positive and the negative pins and just touch the positive and negative of the battery and it should turn on. if it doest, i guess your bulb or ballast is dead. do this with both side and only if they work you plug them. if they doest work, contact your seller and ask for replacement. hid kit are great.
