I am having great difficulty finding emissions hoses for my 94 Buick skylark.  They seem to be unavailable.   Any help would be great.  I need the large ones, they are about 1 inch in diameter.  One has a heater attachment.  It appears to enter the engine.   This hose is collapsed and full of holes, the other is a formed hose and its all cracked.... thanks...

if the hose you need is NOT available.. but you can see a number on it.. 21  or 505 ...

please use a open end combo wrench over the fitting the hose is removed from... so i will know if its 3/8", 1/2", 5/8",


dorman makes several shapes of pcv and breather hoses..  

i believe the parts I need are 21 and 502.  i will doublecheck.

thats what i thought..    can you call or stop into your dealer parts department .. see if you can get the discontinued part number..  you will probably have to talk to the parts department manager..  

if you have the hose off..   can you measure the fitting size..

there are emission hose sections available from dorman.. hanging in the help section in most autoparts stores..

you can even use heater hose for a non forever time period...

i don't have one of these cars to take a look at how they fit..  and you do have the choice of just going to a straight hose and making a big loop...

if you can get the original part number.  google it..  there are a few places that buy up new old stock  inventory from dealers..  

post the number here..  i have a lot of info.. by part number.

i don't get anywhere near my local gm dealer.. and the parts department is NOT helpful.   last time i needed an Oring for a vortec fuel line.. they told me that i would have to buy a whole fuel line tube..  and why would i want to fix that old truck anyway..  first it was NOT my truck.. second.. its a 98 C2500.. and third.. he is lucky when he said that .. that the counter is 5 feet wide..  and i could not have gotten my hands on his shirt collar..   i guess i can understand why i was standing alone in the parts department.. instead of there being 10 people in line like there used to be..


oh... and i drove all the way home and found my delco parts catalog that some other parts stores had thrown away.. found it in there in delco.   i also found it in an after market supplier..  so i had a choice other than the dealer..  

the gm part numbers are as follows:  24576537 and 24573841.  I plan to look at some hoses on sunday, i will let you know if I find anything. thanks for your help.

sir, I ordered the hose.   the heater is another story.  the unit is a seperator, it has a heating element within-they call it a heater.   GR Chevy in Martinsville had the formed hose, but not the heater/separator.  so i still need that one.  I am gonna look at some hoses today, I may find one that will fit in where the heater/separator goes, but I will have to simply bypass the heater.  it won;t pass inspection this way, but it may work for now.   I appreciate all your help so far.  I will photograph and send you a picture of the hose I did order when it arrives.  stay in touch!  

wayne, send me your e mail address and I will send you a picture or two of the formed hose for my '94 skylark.   I still need the heater/separator unit.  the car is running terrible and I may be sucking in debris and particles, which is not good.  any ideas of similar parts that might work?

if your car is running really badly...

is it misfiring?????   or surging... or something else..

is the heater separator unit in one of the numbered images above???


have you had the spark plug coil assembly off????   quad 4 motors that is a serious device that requires just a few extra things to be done...

you might want to ... if its misfiring..    disconnect the coil assembly connector.. remove the 4 hold down bolts...

gently rock it up to remove it...

the spark plug boots should have come up with it...



please examine the sides of these carefully .. and the ends were they were down on the spark plug..

if you see signs of high voltage leaks through the side..  or the ends are hard and or split.. they need to be replaced..

one thing..  you will need a package  of  dielectric tune up grease or this ..



the spark plug boots above..  have a spring inside..  to transfer spark from this coil housing..



this takes a 7MM nut driver or socket to remove from the assembly..

please examine the inside of the coil cover for signs of burn marks..   look down the 4 holes visible for the small aluminum rods that are embedded in the bottom of the holes..   if you see burn marks..  or signs of burning or tracks of heavy dust .. it needs to be replaced..




there are two ignition coils...



please examine these closely..  for signs of high voltage leaks from the round central parts to the inside of the square laminations..

there are little rubber seals that fit on between the coils and the coil cover... these seals need a coating of boot grease also..  


why.. the boot grease...  it stops the high voltage from leaking between the plastic and the rubber seals..

it does work... it was used for the high voltage connection on CRT type televisions for 50 years..

these coils put out so much voltage.. that extra precautions have to be followed..

i went to work in a shop.. where the owners would once in a while do the jobs..  they replaced the coils.. coil cover and boots several times on one quad 4 about the age of yours.... i kept trying to tell them that you have to use dielectric tune up grease to additionally seal the high voltage in..   after the 3rd set of everything.. i grabbed the new parts...  and used my tube of it and put it together before they could get at it..   man did it run good after than..

warning.. DO NOT use the boot lube on the spark plug THREADS..  only inside the boots and not on the contacts..

use spark plug anti seize on the spark plug threads...

and you will probably need to replace the spark plugs ...

the idea is... if you do this right the first time... it should last for well over 50,000 miles.  without being touched..
