Hey, first post here.

I've spent alot of time in the past week searching for a used civic.  I have noticed a trend is that dealers want a far higher price than MSRP.  Like more than 10% above MSRP.  According to kbb.com, MSRP is already like a 15 or 20% markup.  I offered a dealer MSRP for a car, NOT including tax, title, etc. and they turned me down.  MSRP was $7800, and their final offer was $8500.

I'm wondering why.  Is it because a civic is an easy to sell car?  Should I expect to pay 110% of MSRP for a used car?  It seems like there is no point in getting a used car at that point, and I may as well buy new.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi MSRP,
You usually don't reference a used car price with msrp, as msrp references the original new car sticker, hence my confusion in ability to answer your question.
it isn't surprising in this market to see used honda and toyota cars listed for higher than kelley blue book retail price. I say this because there is much higher demand for a limited number of nice clean used cars since there are so few out there.  As new 2012's pour in, you will see these prices slide 10% by 2nd quarter. In my experience there are places you can find these cars for less, especially if not certified. Look for non-branded dealers in the interum.
