Had a client at AffordableEngine.com ordered an engine for this vehicle the other day and I learned a bunch from the rebuilder that I want to share. The 2003 and earlier Land Rover Discoveries had a problem with the timing chain cover not fitting properly that leads to oil circulation problems and overheating and piston sleeve failure. Around 2003 Land Rover changed the block to help correct this problem. If you rebuild or repair this engine, change the timing chain cover to the updated version to save yourself headaches down the road. Also always use the Land Rover oil filter, 20/40 weight oil and premium fuel to keep your discovery running in top shape.
