As I mentioned before I only build the transmission One person takes it apart, second person evaluates the parts, a third person washes the parts and I get a pile of parts to put together.
Allison 1000. First one of these I have ever worked on. Going by the book putting everything together I am left with a snap ring and lip seal that I don't know where the go. Thinking I put the pump O ring in the front drum I take it apart and decide the kit fits 2 differant transmissions so i reassemble the drum. Now the snap ring I spent lots of time redoing everything to come to the conclusion it doesn't go with this trans.
Sound like fun?

i know that not everybody has one yet..
do you have an ipad yet?????
you could download as many of these pdf files as you could in it... it might help...
http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/graphics/Catalog-pdf/Allison-1000.pdf
i wonder if the provider of these sells them as laminated counter mats.. or wall hanging laminated mats... so you could switch between them depending on what's on the bench..
does your cell phone send emails??? you could always drop me an email.. or even a text message.. check your private messages for the contact info..

What size is the snap ring?
Journeyman mechanic, transmission builder since 1963.

The snap ring is about 2 3/4 inches across. The trans went out and is working fine as far as I know. I'm saving it for the trans that it is mission from.
Thanks

It could possibly be a snap ring that was provided for in the kit but not necessarily needed to rebuild. For instance, in most 4L60E kits, they provide the snap ring that holds the output shaft to the front planet.....sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. Just a thought, but I hope it eases your mind a lil ***
As a side note, IF it was REALLY essential.....I doubt the vehicle would have left, and/or would be back VERY soon.

It's been a week and still no word about a problem.
The snap ring came in a basket with all the other snap rings, thrust washers and bearings.
Still have the snap ring .
