i was driving today and the engine started knocking so i pulled into a store and checked the oil it was down 3 quarts (yes i know im an idiot for not checking more often). so i added oil and drove home (35 to 40 miles at 45mph)

what are the chances i can just replace the rod bearings and it didnt damage the crankshaft?

a little chance...  not impossible...

if its still knocking after putting oil back in it..

you might have spun a bearing...  game over....

the cam bearings can also be damaged....

please.. be sure that you have some clear vinyl tubing in 5/16 or 3/8 ID so you can slide a short section over the rod bolts when you push the rod up to change the upper half of the bearing..

please be sure that you ONLY take ONE rod or main cap off at any one time....

i had a friend who was going to do the same..   he pulled all the rod caps.. then all 5 main caps... he did not manage to keep track of which way the caps fit..  after he got it together.. both the front and rear main seals were leaking.. as the crank was sitting on them instead of being centered through them...
