Hi all,
I developed a transmission leak yesterday driving to work but it was too dark to examine it properly and I was hoping ya'll might be able to point me in the right direction to repair it when I can get back to my car this weekend.
I added a quart of trans-fluid after I noticed the gear was slipping around 30 mph and was able to observe it dripping out of the bottom of the car kinda near the back right side of the engine, although I was unable to see where the actual leak originated from. Also, when I raised the car with the tire-jack on the front drivers side the dripping turned into a light steady trickle.
I'm hoping that this sounds to the experienced mechanic like the leak is from a hose popping off or something similarly simple. I am asking for advice on what it might be, tools I should bring, and/or actions I should take.
Thank you in advance to all of you that share your knowledge with the rest of us.
Best Regards,
Mat

You are most likely looking at major trouble. The location of the leak and the fact that it turned to a steady stream when you jacked up the drivers side sounds like the trans front seal is leaking. When you jacked up the car the fluid that was pooled in the bell housing poured out. Also you said it was slipping at 30 mph. The most common failure on that trans is a burnt 3rd gear clutch pack. That is a very expensive trans to have rebuilt. You really have to know that trans well to be able to do a decent rebuild that will last. But you never know. Have someone put it on a lift. Maybe you will get lucky.

Was worried about that too; thanks for the advice, I have the weekend to start preparing. I'll keep ya updated on this forum Monday when I get it to the garage, maybe it'll help someone else.
