I bought a certified used Audi A6.  It came with sport tires on 19"rims (255/35/R19).  When I had my snow tires put on I was informed that the tires that came with the car were not the proper load index as they are 92 and my car calls for 96.  When I spoke to the service department at the dealer they said it doesn't matter and is not a safety concern.  Is that correct?  Does it matter?

Thanks.

Yes, that is correct.  Your car calls for Extra Load (XL) tires in this size.  It is a safety concern as the tires with the lower Load Index are more likely to fail.

hi most winter/snow tyres come with a lower speed rating and therefore load rating, in my opinion i would go along with the dealer it only matters if the difference is huge but yours should be ok. i know that the rules in law are different in the USA to us in Europe but the fact that you have checked is good enough for me and you will be ok.  eric roberts  tyre specialists   audi winter tyres
