Hi all,

My friend's Opel Astra G (1998) has got a mathane (or GPL?) implant and used to be alright. Now, when he switches on the car, the engine's warning light goes on and does not shut. You can actually feel that the engine has lost some power. We think it is some problem into the electric box but don't know what. Also... sometimes, very rarely, when the engine is still warm and he switches on the car, the warning light shuts regularly after few seconds and the performances come back to normality. Can you help me to understand where is the problem, so that we can just change the component without going to the mechanic officine ?

Thank you very much,

 Claudio

just curious... what country is this car from...

messing with compressed gas cars IS NOT to be done except by people with experience..  and training..

there are a few compressed natural gas fleets driving around southern california..   about once a decade.. something happens..  the first one i heard about was 15 passenger shuttle van..  that had been rear ended..  the body shop inspected the carbon fiber tank.. looked OK to them..  they had drained it.. and the van was running on its gasoline tank...  when the driver went to fill the compressed natural gas cylinder.. it exploded..  killing the driver who was standing right beside the fuel tank..    the tank had  been damaged in the impact.. but it looked OK..  any marks on it should have been an instant replacement..

another compressed natural gas fleet lost one of its delivery vans....  they were refueling it..  it blew up and took out a significant part of their building..

compressed gas powered cars and trucks are just to dangerous when worked on by UNTRAINED people..

they don't sell the opal brand in the US currently.. some of the components do get here ..  rebadged.. as a cadillac.. or some other..
