Hi. I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder with about 104,000 miles. Recently the oil pressure gauge has been pegged at high and I am getting a ticking. Loud when I first start it then it gets quieter. I just changed the oil filter and I am using Penzoil 5w30 oil. I have been told it could possibly be the oil pressure sender or it could be a clogged oil chamber in my engine block and the oil is not circulating and the lifters are ticking.Any help is greatly appreciated.ThanksChris
the oil pressure switch might actually be a switch on this one.. might be on the drivers side front corner area of the engine block...i would think that.. you might want to disable the ignition system.. or use a remote starter switch so you can crank the engine without any chance of it staring.. i would take the oil pressure switch out.. then crank the engine with the remote starter switch.. while watching the oil flow from the opening .. it should be quite a stream of oil... wipe the area down without getting any dirt into the opening.. screw the new switch in.. i would then.. while you still have a drain pan under the motor.. take the oil filter off... again crank the engine for a few seconds to see if you are getting decent oil flow from the pump... screw another NEW oil filter on.. check and top off the engine oil.. start the engine looking at the gauge or light to respond.. if i don't get the gage to move in 10 seconds or the light out.. i shut down the engine ... and wait .. did you verify the oil filter is the proper number for your truck????? there are LOTs of oil filters that might fit but might not be correct... some actually have a plastic film to keep the dirt out while on the shelf... did that get removed.. did anybody pour in any additives or oil treatments that might have turned to sludge????can you check the oil filler cap.. and the opening for signs of sludge build up.. this is an engine oil pressure test kit.. they are 25 bucks depending on where you buy it.. these screw into the oil pressure port ...then crank the engine to check the oil pressure.. the flow test with the engine cranking and the filter off will check the oil pump and screen.. i have found other motors that had worn out pumps and clogged pickup tubes that would barely flow any oil during the filter off engine cranking test...the oil pressure switch has a different thread than the end of the hose.. thats why there are adaptors for the hose..the pressure switch thread is 1/8 pipe 28 threads ISO.... where the end of the tester hose is going to be 1/8 pipe 27 thread NPT... slightly different.. if you use the wrong adaptor you can ruin your day...
