My girlfriend has a mini van with a manufacturers suggested tire size of 205 75 r14.  I have a full set of tires that are 185 75 r14.  Can I safely use those tires on her van?

Hi,
I wouldn't recommend using a 185 on a rim designed for a 205.  It is possible that the rim can handle a smaller tire width.  While 20mm doesn't seem that big, it could effect the ride quality and performance of the vehicle.  If possible, you may want to consult the manufacturer of the van to see if this downgrade in size is acceptable.

No, that's dangerous.  That would be going down in load carrying capacity which increases the risk of a load related failure which sometimes has tragic results.
