Yowza, another Porsche: Porsche Unveils New Sports Car The Daily Auto Insider Thursday, February 24, 2005
February 2005
|
| | Porsche says it will be expanding its range of vehicles with a new sports car based on the Boxster series in the 2006 model year. Positioned and priced between the 911 Carrera and the Boxster S, the new two-seat sports car is named the Cayman S. Porsche said in a news release that the new car "is aggressively styled to reflect its enhanced handling and more powerful engine. At the same time, highly efficient space utilization makes it one of the most practical sports cars in its class." The Cayman S derives its name from the smallest of crocodiles, the caiman, which is known to be swift and nimble, Porsche explained. The car is powered by a 295 hp, 3.4-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine mounted in the middle of its chassis. Further details were not forthcoming. | |

Hmm, there's gonna be four Porsches (the Cayenne doesn't count)? Not bad at all. But why not some variety: bring back the 968? Then fans of rear, mid, and front-engined sports cars would all have a Porsche to pick. For like... 20 years, they had one RR and two FRs, now it's one RR and 3 MRs?
