My car after driving about a mile starts accelerating slower and smoking. then after about 1 more mile it turns off... about 10 minutes later it will crank back up and the process starts over. What could b the reason for this?

Thanks... I wasnt looking for how to fix it, just wanted some broad ideas on how bad it was and the cost. I will have a mechanic fix it but I just wanted a lil idea b 4 i actually took it to a mechanic.
