I'm currently driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra Spec-V. It is a great car and a lot of fun to drive, but It is beginning to get to the point where a new car sounds like a good idea. My parameters for buying are: It must be a manual transmission, and it Must be below 25K.

These are the cars I have looked at just to give you an idea of my current interests.

Altima Coupe
Sentra Spec-V (Don't like the new chasis)
Civic Si
Honda CR-Z
Mazda 3
MazdaSpeed 3
Hyundai Veloster
Subaru Legacy

I know that is a wide range of specs, and while gas mileage is important to me, it's not a deal breaker. Opinions?

Best,
Wick

Mazda MX5.  If you're looking at the two-seater CR-Z than might as well not leave the MX5 out as I hear from everyone it's a hugely rewarding drive.  In fact one of the Motor Trend forum members prefers his MX5 to the Mazdaspeed3 he used to own.

A Genesis Coupe 2.0T also starts under $25k, and I think the Mustang V6 and Camaro might too.  Those aren't too bad.

Of your list, the Altima and Legacy are the most misplaced.  For one thing, the Legacy likely won't be turbo, and the manual of Subaru's is famous for rubbery feel (though still easy enough to row, and is replaceable by the optional short-throw).  Altima is just sort of "there."  Dynamically an Accord Coupe, even in 2.4L guise, is better.  Looks better inside and out, too.

Ford Fiesta.Best fuel economy numbers come with the automatic transmission, which is a 6-speed twin-clutch unit -- a type of transmission developed for sports cars, but one which also happens to return great gas mileage. The Mazda has a more grown-up feel, but I prefer the Fiesta for its cheeky character.Ford Fiesta is my favorite small car. Maybe I'm not being 100% objective, so I suggest you take your own Fiesta test drive.

The FIesta dual clutch doesn't have a manual control, merely an "L" to put it in the lowest possible gear at the time.  It also has an undefeatable stability control that kills some of the fun.  It's also very cramped in back to boot, and is one of the most useless of small hatchbacks when it comes to actually loading stuff in it.  Still a good car, but not good enough to replace even a 2002 Sentra SE-R Spec V.

Ooh....http://www.web2carz.com time! ]new car[/url]Always a fun thing. Of the choices you've listed, I'd suggest going for the Altima, Civic SI, or Mazda 3. I love me a speedy Japanese car.
