I have a 93 Ford Mustang LX Convertible that I've driven less than 100 miles since its last oil change 15 months ago. While the typical recommendation is 3 months/3000 miles, I'm curious how long I can go without an oil change on a vehicle driven less than 10 miles per month? Thanks in advance.

you could probably go many years without changing the oil at that rate...
any acid build up from various chemicals in the fuel and from combustion processes need to be removed from the engine oil by changing the oil and the filter..
a year... 2 years.... i have one car... that just sits... i realize.. that i had not changed the oil after the first oil change ... in 1988... this was last year... the oil came out black and thin... it was severally diluted... i did not test the acidity... thats only 22 years...
another seldom driven car... the oil turned to jelly... when i started the engine.. the oil pressure light did not turn out.. i figured i twisted off the oil pump drive shaft... when i pulled the drain plug i found the problem... it was thicker than honey... more like jello pudding... it took a full day to drain... lets see... that was 10 years ago... i guess i should probably change that oil again...
i keep cars forever... and the ones that i have sold... i have kicked my self ever since..
66 gto... sold.
67 rust free camaro... sold
71 camaro rally sport.. sold
83 Tbird 5.0 sold... that was the best handing car i ever had... i could chase down corvettes with it... i got all the goodies from an 87 turbo coupe on it..
71 plain camaro... given to my sister... when she saw it... she went all gushy... oh thank you wayne.. i have always wanted one of those... ... so i handed her the keys and the pink slip... i still see that car driving around... her step son drives it now... brings back good memories of my sister...

Thanks so much for your help!
I guess my fear-thoughts were getting to me. Am I correct about this: Is it true that even if I went several years without an oil change it's not likely I would "ruin my engine". When I was 16 I had a car that leaked oil really bad...it got too low...and the engine was destroyed. Since then I've been overly paranoid about anything related to oil...so I guess my real question is, should I worry about ruining my engine due to unchanged oil on a car I rarely ever drive?
Those sound like some great cars you sold/shared. It's cool to know your 71 Camaro still gives you nice memories through your sister's step son

at least ... change your oil every two years to keep the acid content down...

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks again.
