Why are you changing the tcc valve? PO1870 code?

You cant just replace the valve you need to remove the valve body and buy the tool kit to ream out the valve bore and put in an oversized valve. what year is the trans?

This kit is probably what you need. Its for 97 up. There is a different one for 92 to 97. I put one of these into almost every 4L60E i rebuild. If you have high mileage this is a must. You might as well try this first because anything else requires pulling the trans. And if it winds up that your convertor clutch is shot you would have had to fix the valve anyway. One thing i forgot to ask you is when you clear the code how long does it take to come back?

If your looking for a cheap fix an old trick is to take a 4l60e inner pump slide spring cut it down about 3/8 of an inch.Take the end cap off the tcc regulator valve and put the pump slide spring in the bore and use it to pin the regulator valve against the bottom of the bore then put the end cap back in and put the clip in.This will eliminate the pwm function. The convertor clutch will either be off or on 100 percent. No more variable apply. Its not the best solution but it will eliminate the tcc slippage code and prevent further damage if your convertor clutch is not already shot.

If you have a gm rebuilt valve body or if someone already installed an over sized valve then this cant be done.

Here is a link to an exploded view of a 4l60e valve body The cut down inner pump slide spring goes between valve #380 and end cap #381.If your tcc regulator valve setup doesn't look like the one in this picture then you cant do it you have to fix it the right way.

I took down the valve body, installed the tcc valve and 1-2 shift.. I might have to bring him back down and rebuild the valve body...

What you guys think?

The way i understood it is you had the 1870 code but i assumed the trans shifted okay and had all the gears is that right? Did you ever clear the code and if you did how long did it take to come back?

Ok if the code comes back after you fixed the tcc regulator valve then there is a strong possibility that your converter clutch is no good. Flare ups on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts does not bode well for that trans either. You might have a weak pressure solinoid. You could check line pressure with a gauge but a simple way is to drive it for about 20 minutes so it is good and hot then come to a stop and punch it in drive off the line .If your pressure solinoid is weak the trans will chatter. How many miles on it? What did the pan look like when you dropped it?
