The person(s) named on the title and/or loan MUST insure the vehicle in their own name. They can add other drivers who aren't on the title or loan as additional drivers, but the actual owner(s) must be primary. Unless you own the car, you don't have "insurable interest" which is a legal requirement to obtain coverage on a vehicle. If you insured it in your name and had an accident, the insurance company would discover that and would NOT pay the claim! Also, if the vehicle is financed, the lender requires proof of insurance (and roof that they're named as the loss payee or lienholder) and they wouldn't accept a policy in another person's name.
Sorry, but it won't work. If the goal is to insure it only in your name (presumably because the owner has traffic violations, accidents, etc. that will make it very expensive to insure), your only option is to get the vehicle titled in your name. That would only be possible if the car is paid off.
