I HAVE A JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED 03. ANY WAYS A MONTH AND HALF AGO WHILE DRIVING I FELT WHAT  I THOUGHT WAS A TIRE BLOW OUT, A PARKED OF THE RIGHT OF THE FREE WAY TO SEE THE FLAT TIRE. TO MY SURPRISE IT WASN'T A FLAT AS I SAW THE TIRES THREADS SHAVE OF AND THE BACK SIDE OF THE PANEL INCLUDING A PORTION OF THE BACK BUMPER WAS TAKEN OF AS WELL. AND THE PLASTIC COVER ABOVE THE TIRE WAS CAUGHT INTO THE TIRE . NOW THIS IS STRANGE. THEN THIS WEEK COMING FROM L.A IT HAPPEN AGAIN ON THE FREE WAY THIS TIME THE OTHER SIDE OF MY JEEP LIBERTY. NOW I HAVE BOTH SIDES OUT. CAN ANY ONE HELP ME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. PLEAS AND WHAT I CAN DO. I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD GO TO THE INSURANCE PEOPLE OR THE JEEP PLACE. THANKS

a few things...     over inflation will tear the steel belts off any tire...  under inflation will also damage the tires...  overloading can also damage the tires...

running them at low pressures for a long time.. then bringing them up to max pressure has also damaged tires to cause the belts to separate...

how are your tire pressures...  who checked them... the last few times..

were these the same tires that came on the jeep NEW... or were they replacements...

were they new replacements ... or used tires....

do you still have the damaged tires????? or did you manage to write the DOT number down from the tire sidewall before they were disposed of...

did you drive through any massive pot holes or trenches..   run over something on the freeway that could have damaged the tires...

when steel belts come off tires..  they sometimes give you a hula sort of motion to the car at low speeds as the tires have lumps in the surface where the belt is starting to come apart...

since these are both on the back...    and i am taking that the tire shop who replaced the one.. also inspected the other tires for damage...  is there a chance .. that this is a 2 wheel drive version and somebody has been doing burn out with your jeep...   or they stretched the jeeps legs and drove it over 90 MPH for some time...

each tire has a serial number..  DOT numbers embossed /molded into the casing.. so they can be traced back..

without the tires.. without the inflation pressures before they were dismounted.. its hard to really know..

there are a few forum members who drop in from time to time and really know a LOT about tires.. more than me.. i keep my head under the hood...

around the los angeles area... the freeways have mostly been ground smooth to eliminate the thump thump thump when driving along between the sections of the freeways..   really makes it a pleasure to drive on..     except where i live.. the late night motorcycles making full throttle runs past my house at well over 100 MPH...  some i am sure are up around 150 MPH..  makes me shiver when they go blasting by..

as for if your insurance will cover tire damage to your own car...   you are going to have to read the fine print of your policy..
