I am trying to replace the chain on my transfer case on a 98 Jeep GC Laredo, I have removed all the bolts, but am not able to get the case off? I can pry it open 3/4 inch, but it will not come off no matter how hard I pull on it.  Is there something else that might be holding it on? Can you suggest what I should do next to get this casing off?
Thanks,

i am taking that you are unbolting it from the back of the transmission...

have the drive shafts out...

disconnected what ever shift linkage or electrical connections..

removed any vent hoses from it.. if any..  there are 5 or 6 bolts holding it to the back of the transmission case...

Hi,
Thanks for the help, it's actually the Z249 t-case, was able to get open finally after removing the whole case from the jeep, slip ring was stopping it.
Do you know if there should be any play at all in the planetary gear assembly, there is a slight movement there. Could this be causing a loud whirring sound from the front driver side area. Chain seems pretty taut, how much play should there be?
Everything else looks really good, can't see anything wrong with it. Is the anything else that I should be looking at while it's open. Plan to replace u-joints while I'm at it.
