i have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with ignition switch problems(would not turn) I took out the ignition switch and gave it to a locksmith to fix. the locksmith cleaned up the old ignition switch but  told me I needed a whole new switch I walk out of the store to my car and reinstalled the ignition switch, it turn however the car would not start(no lights would come on nothing at all)
I walked back into the store told the locksmith he worked on it I reinstalled the ignition switch again it worked and I drove. I go to start the car this morning the key turns but the car is dead ..nothing  even the horn doesn't work.
are these two problem connected?
if the locksmith made a mistake and re-key the car wrong , could the switch be draining the car dead or killing the electric system?

i would think its kinda hard to get the ignition switch installed in the wrong position.. looks like it only fits in one direction..

this is the dorman replacement ignition lock cylinder that has all the parts to rekey it your self to match your key...

i would like to know...    if you can take the key out in any position other than the locked position..   when you turned it off.. it might have turned backward to the accessory position...

the lock cylinder comes out as you know by turning it forward to the run position and depressing the pin in the side up from the bottom and pulling it out.. if you took the column apart  to get the part to the locksmith...   you or who ever reassembled it might have messed up....

i guess that you missed the pair of huge forum posts on this site.. my key won't turn...   where you can use a rubber mallet to knock the key in or even a shoe. while exerting just a little turning motion on the key to get it to turn.. saves a lot of time...

there are several videos on youtube..  about getting the lock cylinder out.. and dormanproducts on youtube including how to install the wafers to make it fit your key....
