I read somewhere that a few big car manufacturers are phasing out the paper-based car brochure in favour of digital alternatives, websites, app's etc...

In these environmentally-aware times, do you think that printed brochures SHOULD be stopped, or is there still a place for the tactile printed brochure??

Personally I like having something to 'take away' when I leave a showroom...

you should be taking away a car when you leave the showroom..

glossy brochures have been a staple.. of the car sales industry.. as advertising..    but .. i would imagine that production and printing costs are sky high..   a multi page booklet might cost over 2 bucks..  might cost more than that..

are they needed... to make what features the car has much easier to understand... to compare models...  do the people in charge of paying for them think they are a good idea...  hopefully.. but times are changing...   does everybody who is coming in to buy a car have a digital life yet... NOPE...

will the lack of brochures hurt car sales..  perhaps...  will the loss in car sales cost the manufacturer more than the cost of the printing and distributing costs...  thats hard to say..

perhaps looking at how many brochures are left at the end of the model year..   verses how many cars sold... so cases of brochures are not just handed out like candy..  or vacuum seal pacs of 5 or 10 and put them in every car as it is sent off the end of the line.. so a dealer gets so many in each car they order...

but then there is the problem..  of the person who sits at his office desk...  he is the true car buyer..  wants to flip pages and examine all the neat things he is going to be able to do in the car he decides to buy...    an educated buyer...

will ditching the printed brochure hurt.. probably..

are they needed... yes...   will limits be placed on how they are given away...  yes..

I think they are still needed like books. For example I can't read books online, I need real paper books, I like them. May be after several years they will be useless, but now we need them.
