I have a 98 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V-6 Engine. No matter what I try it will not fire. I already repaired the splice people talked about, replaced the Crank Sensor and Cam Shaft Sensor.

So what else should I look at

Thanks for your help in advance.

P.S. Also forgot to say, that the Auto Shutdown Relay is not kicking on. I ran a hot wire to it and the fuel pump kicked on. I then turned it over and still no spark.

I also had another question, I have a 98 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V-6 and it's not firing nor does the Auto Shutdown Replay kick in. I have tried other replays still not working.

My question is does the Camshaft Position Sensor have anything to do with the Auto Shutdown Relay?

first.. i would throw a brand new coil at it.. i have had to change several of them that would not properly spark with enough power to light the spark plugs..

i would also  probably toss a new ignition rotor and distributer cap on it..

lets look at the wiring diagram for the 98 dakota...3.9...

http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/0c/0a/b2/large/0900c152800c0ab2.gif

so the auto shut down relay controls positive voltage to the COIL .. the injectors.. on the dark green with an Orange stripe wire..   so do you get power to the positive side of the coil when you go to crank the engine????

the ECM pulls the auto shut down relay coil to ground with the dark blue with yellow stripe wire...

do you have power while the key is on and while cranking on both sides of fuse number 9?????

do you get power all the time on both sides of fuse number one and fuse number three...

ignition coils do go bad....

if you are not getting the auto shut down relay to close when you turn the key on.. thats going to be a problem... and needs more  investigation...

are you able to plug a scan tool in to the OBD2 port under the dash board...
a lot of these problems will set trouble codes.. if the battery has not been disconnected.. and you can also look at the live data stream to see the crank and cam sensor signals...

the auto shut down relay will cycle off... if the engine does not run in 2 seconds...  its actually the PCM that cycles it off...

test what you can .. post what you find...

I have another question, are there any difference in the MFI and the SFI Engines, will the parts and computer still work on both or are they different?

thats a question i cannot answer...  as i don't know enough about the parts you are swapping... and i don't know enough about the dodge fuel injection system differences...

i understand how they all work...  really well..   but i am not a specialist in mopars.. i have only worked on a few of the dakota pickups..

the wiring diagram i posted above look like its wired for SFI..   but i don't know what the program is written for... it could fire 3 and 3 or all of them individually..

what exactly are you trying to ***

there are also about a dozen truck magazines.. many with a few people who swap things around...

there are almost 3 dozen automotive magazines on this site..  each with a different niche..

Thanks to every ones reply, I found the problem and it's running great again. They was 2 broke wires in the wiring harness. I spliced them back and it fired right up.

Thanks Again
