I am an operations (internet) manager at a good sized dealership i sell whole sale and retail cars. I do all of our online merchandising photograph all of the cars and tons more. When I "sell" a car I have to hand the commission and the actual sale to a sales man for them to make commission. I may be the customer’s first contact and convince them to buy the car or actually sell it on E-bay yet no extra pay. I work in Ohio for just over minimum wage am I being used? And should I A. ask for a raise or B. look elsewhere i don't make enough to survive even but the thing is I love my job and I am great at it. The CEO has emailed me to tell me I’m doing great I have only been here 6 months and just don't know how long I can work for so little.

how much you make.... depends upon.....
why not look up your job description at the department of labor.. they list almost every job with with average pay...
check this link...
http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/statistics/publications.htm
the handbook of occupational titles is probably around there someplace... identify your job by description and find the matching job number...
there have been a lot of cars sold over the net... but from what i read ... only a small percentage of them sold online... leads that bring the customer in... sometimes get rewarded...
but.. do the operators who answer the phones make extra??? if they still have them.. usually the phone service is automated...
i just got off the phone with a friend who works at a dealership... line tech.. got hired at x dollars per hour flat rate... then was told to punch in and out... they only payed him for his flagged time... not the time card time... when the flagged time was less than the hourly wage... weeks when he flagged more hours than the weekly time card... they payed him only for the time card time... which ever was less.... when he confronted him about this.. they laid him off for a week... kept him on stand by... his last dealership did this.. they got a HUGE fine from the labor board... the last dealership also forced him out.. as he was one of the smart techs who would figure out what's wrong and fix that ... instead of shot gunning the warrantee work.. replace everything in site...
so.. spend the time reading at the labor site...
but.. if your hourly rate is hourly rate... you might be done in.. if you can show that you are bringing in do to your creative programming and descriptions of the cars ... you might be able to ask for an increase of wage...
car salesmen are also .. in some states licensed... as they have to deal with contracts ... legal issues... exchange of property...
put together a list of your living expenses... to take with you to your next pay meeting with the boss.. along with your paystubs... how can you work there.. if you cannot afford gas to drive to work... or car insurance.. or your apartment.. and utilities..

Thanks I am tossing around the idea of looking else where at this point the GM changes so often it's impossible to work with some one long enough to get a raise the gentleman that hired me was great but at another store within 4 months and the new GM isn't expected to last but maybe one more month (his third)but thank you very much for this information I plan on researching the wages and if nothing else as I apply i have great credentials i have the best marketing scores out of 17 stores yet might be paid the least becuase I started young and with zero experience but after six months I love the job and feel I do a great job!
