I have a problem have an 07 galant and the tires I have on are 205/40/17. The sidewalls are thin and here in chicago its almost winter time and that means pot holes! I have 2 good 215/55/17 tires. Can i take the 205 out and put all 4 215's? Will this work at all?

there is a tire guy who drops in... but you are probably going to need a good tire shop in person to see what fits what... i don't have a tire chart of what fits what..

check back in a few days... see if he posts anything..

Perhaps I am the "tire guy" being referred to.  Even if I am not:

To my knowledge, no one has published a chart that delineates how much room there is under the fenders for all the vehicles ever produced  - not even a partial listing - and as a result, I don't think anyone can tell you with certainty what will fit on any particular vehicle unless they have personal experience on that particular vehicle.

HOWEVER - Tire Guides says that some versions of 2007 Mitsubishi Galant's originally came with 215/55R17's, so presumably that size would fit them all.

- AND -

Apparently you don't realize that a 205/40R17 is criminally undersized for your car!  It's no wonder you are having sidewall problems.

Even if you use 41 psi - this is an Extra Load tire, right? - you still won't generate enough load carrying capacity to match the original tires.

Fix that and your sidewall problems will be gone.
