Hi experts,I just bought a used car. And I am very novice in car maintenance. The car is Honda Ballade 92 model. In radiotr reserver tank I have sufficient water. But when drive for 1 hour i found water level from raditor hose is very low. I open up the radiotor cap find water level is down. However, car heat sign shows normal. Will it be a problem? Should I put extra water inside radiator hose or raditor hose will take automitically water from reserve tank?please help me to understand.
hondas have a bleeder screw usually on the thermostat housing.. sometimes 2... that you fill the radiator with coolant... start the engine.. loosen the bleeder screw to let any trapped air out of the system... as soon as you get only coolant in a few seconds... close it....you might want to use your 12MM spanner/ wrench to loosen the bleeder screw, remove it... use a piece of wire to clean the center hole out to the bottom.. then the small hole below the threads on the side... so when you open the bleeder screw.. coolant can actually flow... they tend to get clogged... reinstall it.. if the engine is off.. and you have released any built up coolant pressure by removing the radiator cap... then reinstalling the radiator cap.. you should not loose much coolant while you have the bleeder screw out.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~a few things about hondas... NEVER lean on the radiator.. the tops are paper thin... not repairable.. hondas have electric fans... you have to make sure they operate .. that they cycle on and off as the engine heats up...hondas have to have the proper thermostat installed... or the cooling system will not work properly... use anti seize on the thermostat bolt threads... you might be the next one to remove them.. you will thank your self..you will also need to have the cooling system pressure checked... make sure it holds pressure.. pump it to half a bar... or 7 pounds.. let it sit.. make sure it does not drop... you can after you fill the system.. bleed the air out.. and top it off.. cap it.. see how long it takes to build pressure.. most cars take 3 to 5 minutes with the cap on to come up to pressure.. if it builds pressure within a minute... you might have a head gasket leak... leaking head gaskets happen on hondas a LOT.. one more place... check the water pump... its on the side of the motor near the timing cover... when the water pumps leak... the coolant can leak out.. if this is happening.. the coolant will not be pulled back into the radiator from the reserve tank....if you do the water pump.. replace the timing belt.. be prepared to replace the timing belt tensioner.. and the cam and crank seals... they may or may not be bad... most professional mechanics normally replace the cam and crank seals with every timing belt...oh.. and by the way.. there are several import magazines on this site you might get a kick out of...http://www.importtuner.com/index.htmlhttp://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/index.htmland probably half a dozen more..
