If you follow some basic maintenance tips you will be able to bring out the best in your car and increase its longevity. A maintenance check list will help you increase your car performance:

* Clean your air filter: You should regularly clean and replace your car's air filter. There will be a better combustion mixture and the car will deliver higher power.
* Check the engine belts: A loose belt could lower the performance of your car. You should always check whether the engine belts are tight enough.
* Usage of proper oil and gas for your engine: Don't go for 'economy products' and damage your car. It is better to use fuel and oil recommended by the maker. You should regularly change oil to keep your car's engine in good shape.
* Check and rotate your tires: It is very important to regularly check the pressure of your tires. Every 6000 miles, you need to rotate your tires.
* Use proper spare parts: If you need to replace some parts you should always buy the model as recommended in the car manual.
* Use proper accessories: You should do regular checking and maintenance of your accessories. Installing a window fender will allow fresh air inside the car without affecting the aerodynamics or the performance.

You should also wash your car regularly to prevent rusting and damage to the exteriors of the vehicle. Following the above mentioned tips for maintaining your car will increase its longevity. You should keep in mind that as soon as you feel there is something wrong with your used car such as an irregular noise, vibration, or warning lights, you need to get your car inspected as soon as you can.

Timing belts! Cars with a timing belt should have that belt changed. It's a $300-500 job that can save you the cost of rebuilding a head. The timing belt connects the crank shaft with the camshaft. Should the belt brake while the vales are pushed out and a piston makes a full revolution and you'll have a bent valve. Do not neglect this. If you don't know if your car has a timing belt, as your dealer or search the web. Brake flush.
