I had the same problem with a 92 pick-up. Fixed the head gasket and got rid of the piece of crap! I have had 2 toyotas with head gasket problems. 92 pick-up with 22r, and a 93 4runner with the 3.0 V6. I made the mistake of buying another toyota recently and I am having other problems with it. NO MORE TOYOTAS FOR ME!

New head, new gasket, new bolts, locktite bolts, don't use dealer head gasket, go after market. Check top of block for possible warpage too.

ever thought it might be something else like say the radiator being clogged or the waterpump not working or the fan clutch

check your water pump, and i agree with the other guy sell the car. i had a 96 toyota that ran bad constantly, always something wrong with it. I bought an audi and no problems since.

I'm a firm believer in the reliability of toyotas in general, especially the 20R and 22R engines. I have had some blow head gaskets but usually with high mileage. If the machine work on the head was under par it may have affected the repair and led to this failure. If the block deck surface is warped it has probably seen some serious overheating at some point in it's life. If the head gasket was replaced without surfacing the head they usually don't last very long.
