Looks like it would be a good time to buy a GM SUV.  GM cut prices on their mid-size SUV models cause they're losing money.  Ahh...I feel sorry for the biggest automaker.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of SUV.  Give me a sports car any day to drive around Souther California in (well..not right now...it's raining pigs and donkeys! ).

It's a good time to buy a GM anything...

General Motors has increased incentives on the new Pontiac G6 and Buick LaCrosse because of sluggish sales, the Wall Street Journal reported. The company is also preparing to scale back production of the G6.

Paul Ballew, GM's executive director of market and industry analysis, said G6 sales are "pretty good" but admitted they are "not off the charts," the story said. GM expects to sell about 6,000 G6s this month, up from about 4,000 last month, he said.

Meanwhile, dealer's inventories of the G6 and LaCrosse are increasing; GM currently has a 123-day supply of the G6 — about double the normal amount — and enough LaCrosses in inventory to last about 122 days at the current selling rate, the story said.

To boost sales of the cars, GM is now offering between $1,500 and $2,000 in rebates, depending on the region, or low-interest financing such as 0% interest rates on 36-month loans. Buyers in all regions who trade in cars from competing manufacturers can receive another $1,000, and in the Southeast region, a consumer could get as much as $4,000 in cash incentives. GM also has given dealers coupons allowing them to cut the prices on the G6 or LaCrosse by up to an additional $1,000, the WSJ noted.

So much for that Oprah giveaway, eh?

Besides the Chevy Cobalt, aren't the G6 and LaCrosse GM's only new passenger cars for 2005?  Geez, it's only February.  Great start there...

I'd hate to see how high the rebates are for the Pontiac Sunfire and Grand Am.

Now add Ford to the list.

Ford Motor Co. has succumbed to the inevitable and placed cash rebates on its two newest models: the 2005 Ford Five Hundred sedan and Ford Freestyle wagon.

Both carry $1,000 givebacks. As an alternative, Ford is offering a loan-rate spread of 0 percent to 3.9 percent on the vehicles. Previously, the only come-on for the Five Hundred and Freestyle was a spread of 1.9 percent to 5.9 percent.

Ford Motor also added the 2006 Ford Econoline van and Escape SUV to the rebate list at $500 each. The Escape Hybrid is excluded. The $3,000 givebacks on the 2005 Lincoln LS sedan and Mercury Monterey minivan have been dropped, and the spiff on the 2005 Lincoln Navigator SUV has been raised to $3,000, from $2,000.
