2006 Ford Fusion turn signal problem

Hoping someone can give me some suggestions. My 2006 Fusion's front, driver side turn signal does not work (both when the turn signal is on, and the hazard lights are on). The rear signal works fine. I have swapped the driver side and passenger side bulb, and it works fine on the passenger side only. I have also swapped the sockets that the bulb goes in, same result... works fine on the passenger side, doesn't work on the driver side.

sorry to let you know..   all the lights are controlled by the ECM/bcm.. via CAN system...  controller area network..  the switch sends a request to the ECM/bcm asking it to activate the circuit..


it will take a CAN enabled scan tool... to diagnose the possible problems with the communications system between the parts..    or to replace the modules..


there will probably be a trouble code for it stored in the ECM/bcm..


but it still could be something simple.. like a loose connection..  a bad solder joint on the logic board of the light ... if they are accessible..

would you like me to post some articles on the CAN system???  so you can learn about all the items that are drive by wire...

Have you found out yet what caused this? My wife's 06 Fusion is doing the same thing. Thought it was just the bulb, changed it, checked all fuses. ?? I really dis-like wiring problems! Smile Any help would be great!

find an OBD2 scan tool that is CAN enabled....... that displays live data .. not just codes....



i will look up more info later tonight...

you might need to subscribe to an electronic repair manual data service...

i went over to autozone.com... they cover some of the repair info for the 06 and 07 fusions..  but most of its not active yet...

Did anyone find a solution to this yet.  I have a 2006 Fusion as well and front drivers turn signal stays on even with key off.  Turn signals inside flash real fast, right or left front does not flash.

hmm... there is some diagnostics to this..

there is a device under the hood called the smart junction box..


i just found some info on it..

let me look at this for a while.. see if there is an easy answer for this..

Pinpoint Test L: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative

Normal Operation

The smart junction box (SJB) sends reference signals to the multifunction switch through circuit CLS39 (VT/WH) (LH turn input) and circuit CLS41 (GY/YE)(RH turn input).
When the multifunction switch is switched to the LH or RH TURN positions, the voltage signal is routed to ground. When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the LH or RH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage to the appropriate turn lamps.

All the turn lamps are individually wired to the SJB. The timed on/off cycle is determined by the SJB and is set to flash approximately 80 times per minute if both the front and rear turn lamps operate correctly. If an individual turn signal lamp is inoperative, the SJB flashes the remaining turn lamp approximately 160 times per minute.


Possible Causes
Circuit CLS39 (VT/WH) open
Circuit CLS41 (GY/YE) open
Multifunction switch
SJB

Circuit CLS39 (VT/WH) short to ground
Circuit CLS41 (GY/YE) short to ground
Multifunction switch

M1 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202.
Ignition ON.
Do the turn lamps continue to flash on and off?

Yes GO to M2
.
No  INSTALL a new multifunction switch.

M2 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS39 (VT/WH) (LH TURN SIGNAL) OR CIRCUIT CLS41 (GY/YE) (RH TURN SIGNAL) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: SJB C2280d.

Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202-2 (LH turn lamps), circuit CLS39 (VT/WH),harness side and ground; or between the multifuncti
on switch C202-3 (RH turn lamps), circuit CLS41 (GY/YE), harness side and ground.

Yes
GO to M3
.
No

REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.

M3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
Operate the system and verify the concern is still
present. Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to
Section 419

. TEST
the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The
concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded
connector. CLEAR any DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.


PINPOINT TEST M: THE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE ALWAYS ON

Pinpoint Test N: One Turn Signal/Hazard Lamp Is Inoperative/Always On
Normal Operation — Fusion

When the smart junction box (SJB) detects the multifunction switch in the LH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) to the LH front turn lamp. When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the RH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS25(YE/VT) to the RH front turn lamp. Circuit GD123 (BK/GY) and circuit GD121(BK/YE) provide ground for the LH and RH front turn lamps, respectively. The rear turn lamps are controlled utilizing the rear stoplamp circuits.
Normal Operation — Milan
When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the LH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) to the LH front turn lamp, and through circuit CLS18 (GY/BN)to the LH rear turn lamp. When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the RH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS25 (YE/VT) to t
he RH front turn lamp, and through circuit CLS19 (VT/OG) to the RH rear turn l
amp. Circuit GD123 (BK/GY) and circuit GD121 (BK/YE) provide ground for the LH and RH front turn lamps, respectively. Circuit GD171 (BK/GY) provides ground for the rear turn lamps.

Normal Operation — Zephyr
When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the LH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) to the LH front turn lamp, and through circuit CLS18 (GY/BN) to the LH rear turn lamp. When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the RH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit CLS25 (YE/VT) to t
he RH front turn lamp, and through circuit CLS19 (VT/OG) to the RH rear turn lamp. Circuit GD123 (BK/GY) and circuit GD121 (BK/YE) provide ground for the LH and RH front turn lamps, respectively. Circuit GD171 (BK/GY) provides ground for the rear turnlamps.
On vehicles equipped with daytime running lamps (DRL), the front turn lamps are utilized as the DRL.

Possible Causes
Circuit CLS18 (GY/BN) open, short to ground or voltage
Circuit CLS19 (VT/OG) open, short to ground or voltage
Circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) open, short to ground or voltage
Circuit CLS25 (YE/VT) open, short to ground or voltage

PINPOINT TEST N: ONE TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD LAMP IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON

N1 DETERMINE IF A TURN LAMP IS ALWAYS ON
Ignition ON. Monitor the turn lamps while placing the multifunction switch in the RH TURN, LH TURN and NEUTRAL positions.
Is any turn lamp always on?

Yes
GO to N4
.
No
GO to N2


N2 CHECK THE TURN LAMP GROUND CIRCUITRY FOR AN OPEN

Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: Inoperative Turn Lamp.
Measure the resistance between the inoperative turn
lamp, harness side and ground as follows:
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Disconnect: SJB C2280e (Rear Lamp) or C2280a (Front Lamp).
Measure the resistance between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side and the SJB, harness side; and between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side and ground as follows: Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the inoperative turn lamp and the SJB, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the inoperative turn lamp and ground?

Yes
GO to N5
.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test


N4 CHECK THE TURN LAMP VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: SJB C2280e (Rear Lamp) or C2280a (Front Lamp).
Ignition ON.
Does the turn lamp in question continue to illuminate?

Yes
For the LH front turn lamp, REPAIR circuit CLS21 (B
U/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

For the RH front turn lamp, REPAIR circuit CLS25 (Y
E/VT). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

For the LH rear turn lamp, REPAIR circuit CLS18 (GY/BN). CLEAR the
DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

For the RH rear turn lamp, REPAIR circuit CLS19 (VT/OG). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to N5
.



N5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins

I have identical problem and tried the same things. Although my marker light stays lit turn signal does not blink (all same bulb)This seems to be a typical problem for this vehicle. Can you please tell me what rectified this problem before I proceed to replace the whole turn signal switch itself. Is the switch the problem or relay of some sort ??? Thank you
