We own a 2000 Expedition with 80000 miles on it. Maintenance has been perfect. Engine has just blown out a spark plug along with the threaded portion of the Head. Anyone else ever heard of a 5.4L Ford doing this??? Can you say compression?? We have been told to replace the Heads, replace the engine or install an insert and move on.

Yes I've heard of it before, not always on this engine but others too. Try thread insert first before doing anything else with the head. It wasn't really compression, poor initial thread tapping. You will find this happen a lot more on alum. heads when somebody wants to take a plug out of a hot engine

This seems to be comming a very common problem.
There is a guy in California that has repaired about a hundered of these with a custom insert. He is willing to fly anywhere in the country to do the repairs.
He has a website at www.blownoutsparkplug.com

Go to NAPA and get a kit and put an insert in it.
