Automatic Transmission.

When the car is cold, The transmission will start in High gear in Drive or Reverse and it will not stand still and stale like a standard. You know
you forget to press the clutch or pop it to fast. Weird.

Looks like in will not idle still in Drive/Reverse. It wants to MOVE, I have to apply the brakes.

Just under 5 minutes of warming up, the transmission works fine.

What we did so far.

- Clean the idle air control valve (IACV)
- Replace coolant temperature sensor
- Change transmission fluid

Someone said maybe my Solenoids are sticking? Where are they?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you

The trans starts in high gear when in drive or reverse?it stalls but it wants to move too fast? You need to be a little more coherant. what does the car do when you put it in drive what does it do when you put it in reverse? how does it shift? does it maintain idle with the car in drive and your foot on the brake? in reverse?

>What does the car do when you put it in drive

It seems like its in high gear, if I apply the brakes it will stale

>What does it do when you put it in reverse?

same thing as put it into Drive

>How does it shift?

Will not shift, until it warms up about 2 to 3 minutes then it will be ok

>Does it maintain idle with the car in drive and your foot on the brake? in reverse?

NO, not until in warms up a little.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a torque converter lockup problem. The first thing to do is get an OBD2 code reader and check the computer system for codes.Or you could have it scanned by a sop. A lot of shops will check for codes at no charge. The trouble codes will narrow it down.  post them here after you get them

PO731   1st gear ratio error.    This code sets when the output sensor reading doesnt correlate with the input data and the gear the trans is operating in. If you can clear the codes after the car is warm and running good. Does the code come right back? Does the code come back after it gets cold and you feel the problem happening again?  If you dont want to all that then try a new output sensor.

1. Not it will not comes back after we clear the code and the car is warmed up.

2. Yes the code comes right back when the car is cold (Parked over night) and
  the problem reapear.

Where are the o/p sensers?

Thanks for your quick response and help.

actually your trans gets its output data from the speed sensor. This is not gonna be a simple fix.Its hard to diagnose without access to the car . The high gear starts is whats setting the code. The computer is sensing to many miles per hour for the gear its commanding and the rpm's the engine is turning. If the torque convertor was stuck on that would explain the feeling of high gear starts and the stalling but it shouldnt stop the car from shifting. You could have a bad tcc solinoid. The solinoids are not that easy to change on that trans. It comes with the whole wire harness on it.Also i dont think you can get the old ones out without letting the valve body hang down. If your going to attempt the job yourself you better get the ATSG manual for the RE4FO4A. Be very careful with the valve body bolts. The book will tell you which ones to remove.

I though maybe it would be just a sticky solenoid...Hmmm look link below

www.nissanhelp.com/diy/obd_codes/p0731.htm

Oh well, now that you gave me something to think about, will need make decision
if I should go to a tranny shop and get it done.

Thx again for you help, much appreciated.
