I purchased a 2004 Saturn, new about 1-1/2 years ago. Recently, while out of town, my son lost his keys.   The locksmith came out and keyed half of the front of the key to open the door.  The locksmith said half of the key is the door and half is the inition setting.  Before keying for the igition, the locksmith put the key in and turned it and IT STARTED WITH HALF THE KEY MADE!    He said that we had a problem in the ignition and that it needed to be checked out.   He said that when that happened it showed excessive wear.   He was also able to pull the key out while the car was still running.   He didn't complete the key.  I still have it.   My son took the Vue to the dealership today and they "checked it out" and said nothing was wrong.    Can anybody share any insight on how I should proceed?  

I think the locksmith is right. I've seen well worn ignition switches do this before. As long as the door locks and unlocks, the key works the ignition switch, don't worry unless your looking for better security. I am a bit surprized though, that a 2004 anything has worn out so fast. The fast one I ever replaced was 6 years old.
