So I've noticed lately that when i am stopped it is almost impossible sometimes to put the car into any of the gears, I have to literallly use all my might sometime to put it into first. I also noticed when i shut the car off it goes into all the gears with ease. When im driving sometimes it hard to put into 2nd gear too and i end up skipping it and going right to third. Anyone know what is wrong.

Thanks
Alex

several things can do this...

clutch slave cylinder...   if it does not release properly...

clutch master cylinder...   if is does not displace enough fluid..

the pilot bearing.   if it is going bad .. it can grab the imput shaft and try to keep spinning it...

excessive crankshaft play...  where the crank thrust bearings are failing and the crank is moving forward away from the release bearing...

if this happened after a clutch job.. was the flywheel resurfaced..???   if so.,.,.. they may have taken an excessive amount off to clean up the surface...    brand new flywheels are available for most of these applications 3.0 and 4.0  for under 80 bucks  at az   .   NEW...   a reground flywheel actually costs the same or more..

when the clutch hydraulics do not move 100 percent of their designed fluid.. the clutch will not be released fully...

try not to break the line from the clutch master to the clutch slave.. they are a ford only item.. or a junk yard.. they have a quick release ... that is really easy to unhook...  ask for instructions on how to release it ...

i would start with bleeding the system...  there is a bleeder screw on the side of the transmission just above where the hose attaches from the clutch master..

i normally pump the clutch pedal several times and hold it down then have the guy under open the bleeder screw.. then tighten the bleeder screw... and pump the pedal again a few times...

this usually only takes a few times.. make sure you don't run out of fluid...

FYI... there is a web site called    therangerstation.com    has a bunch of tech articles on these...
